XY is a Japanese boy band formed in 2023 through the Yoshiki Superstar Project X, a talent competition produced by renowned musician Yoshiki. Combining rock band elements with a dance-vocal unit, XY captivated audiences with their energetic performances and diverse musical styles. However, after a strong debut, the group’s activities have slowed down, leaving fans wondering about their future.
Debut & Early Success
On November 5 before XY band’s debut, member Yoshi died in a traffic accident. With approval from Yoshi’s family, a new vocalist, Tegoshi Yuya, was chosen. As a tribute to Yoshi, XY band released the “XY feat. YOSHI” digital single using his pre-recorded voice. XY officially debuted in June 2023, with the single “Crazy Love”, which topped the iTunes Alternative Charts in Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. The group gained further recognition through their first live performance at the Mynavi Tokyo Girls Collection 2023 Spring/Summer at Yoyogi National Gymnasium. Their blend of rock instrumentals and high-energy dance performances set them apart from traditional J-pop and K-pop-inspired boy bands.
Releases & Performances
Following their debut, XY continued to build momentum with releases like “YG” and “Get Stupid” in June 2024, both of which dominated the iTunes Alternative Singles Chart. The group showcased their versatility by dividing performances between the band members and the dance-vocal team. They also appeared on major TV programs, including Nippon TV’s Premium Music TV, further establishing their presence in Japan’s music industry. XY held the XY 1st ONE-MAN TOUR 2025 ~KALEIDOSCOPE~ in January 2025.
Going Inactive
Despite a promising start, XY’s activities gradually declined by late 2024. With minimal new content and fewer public appearances, speculation about the group’s future began circulating among fans. While no official disbandment has been announced, there have been no major promotions or releases, leaving their status uncertain.

As group activities slowed, the members pursued several paths with most of the group members currently working on solo projects while still promoting XY group. Jay and Yuya Tegoshi have been active in several shows and are brand ambassadors. In March 2025, Yuya Tegoshi performed at B. League Alvark Tokyo’s halftime show and held a fan meeting & public recording of Tegonichi.
