Inactive since 2020, male idol group SNUPER officially disbanded May 3, 2023 following the conclusion of their exclusive contracts with WIDMAY Entertainment.
“From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank both the SNUPER members, who have been with us for a long time, and all the fans who gave SNUPER their love,” WIDMAY Entertainment said in a statement. “We will be sincerely rooting for the members in the future. We ask that the fans also give the members lots of encouragement and support as they face a new start.”
In a handwritten message, Taewoong said, “After countless discussions with the agency and the other members, we have decided that all of the members, as well as the agency, will cheer each other on from separate places in the future.”
Consisting of members Suhyun, Sangil, Taewoong, Woosung, Sangho, and Sebin, SNUPER debuted November 16, 2015 with the single “Shall We Dance” and the EP Shall We. During their active years, the group released eight EPs, 10 Korean singles, six Japanese singles, and made three soundtrack appearances. The group also won four awards: The 2016 Model Special Award at the Asia Model Awards, the New Wave Award (2017), Choice Award (2018), and Potential Award (2019) at the Asia Artist Awards.
In 2020, SNUPER went on hiatus so the members could complete their mandatory military service. However, during the hiatus, Sebin joined Omega X as a member, signaling the potential end of SNUPER.
SNUPER was a group with plenty of potential. Their 2016 hit “Platonic Love” indicated they could have been a leader in the retro concept. The track is a favorite of many SNUPER and general K-Pop fans alike.
Good luck to SNUPER as they embark on new journeys!
